This is old news but it’s still very good news…or at least it was for one lucky young man from Hordaland in Norway. The story goes something like this.
It was a Friday night back in September 2011 and a 20 year old student named Olav Hass Lotssacashen (fictitious name) headed home after a couple of beers with friends at the local bar.
Not quite ready for bed he put on a movie and then decided to lay a couple of bets at Betsson to cure his insomnia. When he opened the web page a message caught his attention. It read something like: “Oppmerksomhet – Mega Fortune jackpot now over €11,700,000 – Play now!”
Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, Olav followed the link and opened up the Mega Fortune slot game. The clock had ticked past midnight…it was now early Saturday morning, September 24 and when the game loaded Olav couldn’t help notice just how quickly the jackpot was rising in value. His heart rate rose accordingly (so much for an insomnia cure) as he hit the spin button and got the reels moving. They came to rest. Nothing.
Another spin. again nothing.
Then spin number 3. This time something quite remarkable did happen and it was recorded by the guys at Betsson:
Olav in a matter of minutes became an incredible €11,736,375 richer.
The rest as they say is history – and well documented history at that because the win has since been added as a Guinness World Record for largest ever online slots game jackpot payout. The official Guinness entry reads:
“The largest jackpot payout in an online slots game is €11,736,375, won by a player on Betsson.com on the ‘Mega Fortune’ game paid to an anonymous player in Norway, on 24 September 2011.”
Why are you telling us this now?
In case you hadn’t noticed, the Mega Fortune jackpot recently sailed past its average hit value. It’s temperature gauge is slowly but surely sliding into red territory. The next milestone value it’s about to pass is €5 million!
Time to start getting a little excited I reckon!
